Second custom 3d print: Another hex cloud
I’m apparently into hexagons these days. I did another hexagonal design in Maya, printed it out on my Replicator with black filament (to contrast the white print I did last post). This one took twice as long (8 hours) as the previous print as well, I’m guessing it has roughly twice the volume. Currently I have it setup in my art-space holding a LED lamp I made using my Ostrich Egg-Bot (describe in a previous post), see pic below. You can download the .stl file over on Thingiverse and print one yourself! A day after submitting, it was added as a “Featured Thing” on their homepage, quite an honor
Eric,
Hi there. Comments were temporarily offline on thingiverse, so I figured I’d drop you a line here. I’m trying out your wall hanger, and I’m curious to see if it’ll support a piece of wood to act as shelving. Once I print two, I’ll let you know how it turns out.
In addition, I noticed that you had a hex v4 and v5. I made something that lets you version your models using git. If you want visual diffs and a way to track your models using git, then I invite you to try cubehero.

It’s still an early version, but If you find it helpful and have feedback, I’d appreciate any. Thanks!
I think a pair of them would support the wood just fine. I wouldn’t load it up with a bunch of encyclopedia’s, but I’d imagine a pair of them could support a number of pounds of goods.
cubehero looks interesting: but how would you link the downloads from thinkiverse to the latest version from that site? FYI, you signup link is broke.
I look forward to seeing some pics after you have them installed 😉
Ahh, sorry about that. The signup link should be fixed now. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Yup, I’ll send you some pics when I’ve finished printing them. It’s currently on hour 5, and going strong!
